Linearization of the Bradford Protein Assay. Determination of america microgram quantities of protein in the Bradford Coomassie brilliant blue assay is accomplished by measurement of absorbance at 590 nm. Caffe Menu Prices! This most common assay enables rapid and simple protein quantification in cell lysates, cellular fractions, or recombinant protein samples, for the purpose of america normalization of biochemical measurements. However, an intrinsic nonlinearity compromises the sensitivity and accuracy of this method. It is ceo of procter and gamble, shown that under standard assay conditions, the ratio of the absorbance measurements at 590 nm and 450 nm is america, strictly linear with protein concentration. This simple procedure increases the accuracy and improves the sensitivity of the assay about type of british 10-fold, permitting quantification down to 50 ng of bovine serum albumin. Furthermore, the interference commonly introduced by detergents that are used to create the cell lysates is america materialism, greatly reduced by the new protocol. A linear equation developed on Effectively Harnessing Alternative Sources the basis of mass action and Beer's law perfectly fits the experimental data. Linearization of the Bradford Protein Calibration Graph: The Coomassie brilliant blue protein assay, commonly known as the Bradford assay 1 , is widely used because of its rapid and convenient protocol as well as its relative sensitivity. Unfortunately, there is a large degree of america materialism curvature over a broad range of protein concentrations (Fig.
1). Therefore, only a narrow range of relatively high protein concentrations, 2-10 mg/ml BSA, is about Sources of Energy, used for the calibration graph, which then better fits linear regression (Fig. 1, green). However, the nonlinearity requires protein concentration of the america unknown samples to fall within the limited range of the calibration graph in order to avoid a large error, and it also reduces the accuracy within the limited range. The nonlinearity presents a serious problem in particular when microgram amounts of protein are not available, and it often requires multiple dilutions of the unknown samples. As noted in the original Bradford paper, the source of the nonlinearity is in the reagent itself since there is an overlap in the spectrum of the two different color forms of the dye. 1 . Essay About Sources! In fact, three forms of the Coomassie brilliant blue dye are in acid-base equilibrium at the usual acidic pH of the assay 2 . The red, blue, and green forms have absorbance maxima at 470, 590, and 650 nm, respectively (Fig. 2). The blue is the form that binds the protein, forming a complex that intensely absorbs light at 594 nm 3, 4 (Fig. 2).
Bradford also noted that the materialism background value for the reagent is continually decreasing as more dye is bound to protein 1 (Fig. 3). Therefore, we attempted to calculate the reduction of the 590 nm background as increasing protein quantities are added, by measuring the change of absorbance at senior essay, 450 nm, where the protein-dye complex does not absorb. We found that the decreasing background partially, but not fully, accounts for the nonlinearity (Fig. 4). We then hypothesized that the decrease in free dye concentration produces another distortion of the linear response, because as protein-dye binding is in equilibrium 5 , complex formation depends not only on the concentration of the free protein, but also on that of the free dye (Fig. 5). Taking into account both issues related to the variable concentration of the free dye, we developed a mathematical equation that describes a linear relationship between protein concentration and the ratio of materialism absorbance measurements, 590 nm over 450 nm (Fig.
6). A detailed description of the theoretical and experimental study can be found in our 1996 publication in Analytical Biochemistry 6 . The mathematical equation was experimentally tested and found to yield a linear calibration curve over the entire protein concentrations range (Fig. 7). Furthermore, the equation was validated also by an independent determination of the correct pH-dependent value of the Y-axis intercept 6 . Detailed Protocol for about Harnessing Sources of Energy, the Improved Bradford Protein Assay, using a Microplate Absorbance Reader: Unlike the absorbance at a single wavelength of 590 nm, the ratio of absorbance values, 590 nm over 450 nm, is america, linear with protein concentration (Fig. 10). The protein concentration of the one flew the cuckoo's nest therapy unknown sample may be simply calculated using the linear equation of the calibration curve (Fig. 10, equation). However, increased accuracy is obtained by measuring several unknown sample dilutions. To this end, prepare two graphs.
The first is materialism, a calibration graph for the standard with #x003bc;g protein on the X axis (Fig. Caffe Menu Prices! 11, right). Materialism! The second graph is for the unknown sample, with #x003bc;l of the original undiluted sample on the X axis (Fig. 11, left). The dye only value should be included in both graphs (Fig. 11).
The protein concentration of the unknown sample is derived by dividing the slopes of the unknown sample and ceo of the standard (Fig. America Materialism! 11, equation). Figure 1. Conventional Bradford calibration graph. The linear range is represented by green symbols. Figure 2. Spectra of the senior reflective essay protein-dye complex and of the dye alone. Figure 3. Protein-dye equilibrium. America Materialism! Figure 4. Reduction of the correct calculated background partially decreases nonlinearity.
Figure 5. Symptoms! Protein-dye equilibrium. Figure 6. Mathematical basis for the linearization of the Bradford protein assay. Figure 7. Linearization of the Bradford calibration graph. Figure 8. America Materialism! Calculation of the absorbance ratio values. Figure 9. A linear Bradford calibration graph. Figure 10.
Linearization of the symptoms Bradford calibration graph. Figure 11. Unknown sample- concentration calculation. The Bradford protein assay is popular due to its ease of performance and relative sensitivity. The linearization over the entire protein concentrations range obtained by the protocol presented here further simplifies the america materialism assay, as the unknown samples do not need to fall within the range of the calibration graph. Importantly, the stockholm improved protocol further provides the following advantages over the original Bradford protocol: The absorbance peaks of the protein-dye complex and materialism the free red dye form are at 594 and 470 nm, respectively. Stockholm Syndrome! It is recommended to measure the absorbance at 590-600 nm, to achieve maximal sensitivity to protein concentration change, and at america materialism, 450-485 nm, to ensure linearization. Due to the optical path length consideration, higher accuracy may be achieved in a 1 ml assay where cuvettes are placed in a regular spectrophotometer, rather than a microplate reader.
In that case, scale-up the volumes 5-fold. It is absolutely mandatory that deionized water will be used as blank. A linear calibration curve can not be obtained if the Essay about Effectively Harnessing Alternative of Energy zero protein standard dye-containing sample is used as blank. This paper is dedicated to the memory of the late Dr. Materialism! Zvi Selinger, who hosted the original research described here.

A carefully prepared “Elevator Speech” is customized to materialism, the person giving the speech and contains information that makes the professional stand out while still focusing on things the employer wants to know (excels in cutting costs, not excellent deep sea diver). The same holds true for your “Written Elevator Speech” or resume summary statement. This “speech” is given at ceo of procter the top of your resume — in the prime resume real estate where a recruiter or hiring manager always looks first. Briefly communicating your professional objective if relevant (if the objective is not obvious) Every resume can benefit from a summary statement.
For some candidates, it can be critical. 1. Career Changers — A summary statement can help a hiring manager quickly see your transferable skills. Without a summary statement, a recruiter might look at america your most recent experience, assume you’re not a fit because your experience isn’t traditional, and toss your resume. 2. Recent College Grads — A summary statement can help you customize your resume for different opportunities. This is and gamble, especially helpful if your background is somewhat general. You can use the summary to highlight skills and experience most relevant for each position.

This allows you to pull the most relevant and impressive skills and career accomplishments and materialism, feature them at the top of your resume. Elements of a Strong Resume Summary Statement. The Basics — Your summary statement should consist of menu, a title and a few lines of text. The text can be in paragraph form and/or use bullets. The summary statement should appear directly below your contact information at america the top of the resume. and should reflect a general (or specific) idea of your career goals. Your Title — When working with my clients on their resumes, I typically recommend starting with a title that communicates their professional identity.

If you are tempted to make your summary statement longer to one flew over nest electroshock, squeeze in more details, resist the america materialism, temptation. Industry research tells us that most hiring managers spend only seconds reviewing a resume before they make up their minds to call a candidate or not. We also know that when they see large chunks of text, their eyes will skip over it. Therefore, it is vital to limit the length of stockholm syndrome, a summary statement to ensure it gets read.
Resume Summary Statement Examples. Below are several examples of “written elevator speeches” or summary/branding statements with titles. These professional traits will vary according to profession and skill level. Managers and executives should focus on business skills as well as technical expertise — even if they fall into a technical industry. Entry-level and recent graduates can include academic training and america, experience to support professional abilities. Step 2: Next, think of the things you enjoy the most in your work. When you write your summary statement, you aren’t just telling the employer what you are good at, you are also telling them what you want to do day in and day out. Ergo, no matter how well you do something – don’t talk about it if you don’t want to do it. When the job seeker is young and needs to rely on academic experience to strengthen their qualifications, it is best to call that out from the america, start. Consider the senior reflective essay, example below: Blends lab management experience with academic training at the University of Florida to offer solid skills in clinical experiments and research activities. Incorporates a background in materialism office administration to provide employers with proven organization, communications, and scheduling expertise.
In this instance, the job seeker focused on Essay about Harnessing Alternative of Energy things learned through education and transferable skills that could be applicable from part-time work experience. The number of times Obama used these key words in senior reflective essay his March 18 speech on race in Philadelphia. The following is a transcript of the remarks of Democratic Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, delivered March 18, 2008, in Philadelphia at the Constitution Center. In it, Obama addresses the role race has played in the presidential campaign. He also responds to america materialism criticism of the Rev.
Jeremiah Wright, an unpaid campaign adviser and pastor at Obama's Chicago church. Wright has made inflammatory remarks about the United States and caffe nero has accused the country of bringing on the Sept. 11 attacks by spreading terrorism. We the america materialism people, in Essay Effectively Harnessing Sources order to form a more perfect union . Materialism! — 221 years ago, in a hall that still stands across the street, a group of men gathered and, with these simple words, launched America's improbable experiment in about Effectively Harnessing Alternative democracy. Farmers and scholars, statesmen and patriots who had traveled across an ocean to escape tyranny and america materialism persecution finally made real their declaration of independence at a Philadelphia convention that lasted through the spring of Essay Alternative Sources, 1787. The document they produced was eventually signed but ultimately unfinished. It was stained by this nation's original sin of slavery, a question that divided the materialism colonies and brought the convention to a stalemate until the founders chose to allow the slave trade to continue for at least 20 more years, and to and gamble leave any final resolution to materialism future generations.
Of course, the answer to the slavery question was already embedded within our Constitution — a Constitution that had at its very core the ideal of equal citizenship under the law; a Constitution that promised its people liberty and justice and a union that could be and should be perfected over time. And yet words on a parchment would not be enough to deliver slaves from bondage, or provide men and women of every color and type of british social creed their full rights and obligations as citizens of the United States. What would be needed were Americans in successive generations who were willing to do their part — through protests and struggles, on the streets and in the courts, through a civil war and civil disobedience, and always at great risk — to narrow that gap between the promise of our ideals and the reality of their time. This was one of the tasks we set forth at the beginning of this presidential campaign — to materialism continue the long march of those who came before us, a march for a more just, more equal, more free, more caring and more prosperous America. I chose to run for president at this moment in over nest therapy history because I believe deeply that we cannot solve the challenges of our time unless we solve them together, unless we perfect our union by understanding that we may have different stories, but we hold common hopes; that we may not look the materialism same and nero we may not have come from the same place, but we all want to move in the same direction — toward a better future for our children and our grandchildren. This belief comes from my unyielding faith in the decency and generosity of the American people. But it also comes from my own story. I am the son of a black man from Kenya and a white woman from america, Kansas. I was raised with the help of a white grandfather who survived a Depression to serve in Patton's Army during World War II and a white grandmother who worked on reflective essay a bomber assembly line at Fort Leavenworth while he was overseas. America Materialism! I've gone to some of the best schools in America and lived in one of the world's poorest nations. I am married to a black American who carries within her the blood of over the cuckoo's electroshock, slaves and slaveowners — an materialism inheritance we pass on to our two precious daughters.
I have brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, uncles and prices cousins of every race and every hue, scattered across three continents, and for as long as I live, I will never forget that in no other country on Earth is my story even possible. It's a story that hasn't made me the most conventional of america materialism, candidates. Ceo Of Procter And Gamble! But it is a story that has seared into america materialism, my genetic makeup the idea that this nation is more than the sum of its parts — that out of many, we are truly one. Throughout the first year of this campaign, against all predictions to the contrary, we saw how hungry the American people were for senior this message of unity. Materialism! Despite the temptation to view my candidacy through a purely racial lens, we won commanding victories in states with some of the whitest populations in the country. In South Carolina, where the Confederate flag still flies, we built a powerful coalition of African-Americans and white Americans. This is not to say that race has not been an issue in this campaign. At various stages in the campaign, some commentators have deemed me either too black or not black enough. We saw racial tensions bubble to the surface during the week before the South Carolina primary. The press has scoured every single exit poll for the latest evidence of stockholm, racial polarization, not just in terms of white and america black, but black and brown as well.
And yet, it has only symptoms, been in the last couple of weeks that the discussion of race in materialism this campaign has taken a particularly divisive turn. On one end of the spectrum, we've heard the stockholm syndrome implication that my candidacy is somehow an exercise in affirmative action; that it's based solely on the desire of wide-eyed liberals to purchase racial reconciliation on the cheap. On the other end, we've heard my former pastor, Jeremiah Wright, use incendiary language to express views that have the potential not only to widen the racial divide, but views that denigrate both the america greatness and the goodness of senior reflective, our nation, and that rightly offend white and black alike. I have already condemned, in america materialism unequivocal terms, the statements of nero menu prices, Reverend Wright that have caused such controversy and, in some cases, pain. For some, nagging questions remain. America Materialism! Did I know him to over therapy be an occasionally fierce critic of American domestic and america foreign policy? Of course. Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in the church? Yes. Did I strongly disagree with many of his political views? Absolutely — just as I'm sure many of caffe menu, you have heard remarks from your pastors, priests, or rabbis with which you strongly disagreed.
But the remarks that have caused this recent firestorm weren't simply controversial. They weren't simply a religious leader's efforts to materialism speak out against perceived injustice. Ceo Of And Gamble! Instead, they expressed a profoundly distorted view of this country — a view that sees white racism as endemic, and that elevates what is wrong with America above all that we know is america right with America; a view that sees the conflicts in the Middle East as rooted primarily in syndrome symptoms the actions of stalwart allies like Israel, instead of emanating from the perverse and america materialism hateful ideologies of ceo of procter, radical Islam. As such, Reverend Wright's comments were not only wrong but divisive, divisive at a time when we need unity; racially charged at a time when we need to come together to solve a set of monumental problems — two wars, a terrorist threat, a falling economy, a chronic health care crisis and potentially devastating climate change — problems that are neither black or white or Latino or Asian, but rather problems that confront us all. Given my background, my politics, and my professed values and ideals, there will no doubt be those for materialism whom my statements of condemnation are not enough. Why associate myself with Reverend Wright in essay the first place, they may ask? Why not join another church? And I confess that if all that I knew of Reverend Wright were the snippets of those sermons that have run in america an endless loop on the television sets and YouTube, or if Trinity United Church of Christ conformed to the caricatures being peddled by some commentators, there is menu prices no doubt that I would react in much the america materialism same way. But the about Harnessing Alternative truth is, that isn't all that I know of the man. The man I met more than 20 years ago is a man who helped introduce me to my Christian faith, a man who spoke to me about our obligations to love one another, to care for america materialism the sick and lift up the poor. He is a man who served his country as a United States Marine; who has studied and lectured at some of the stockholm syndrome finest universities and america materialism seminaries in the country, and who for over 30 years has led a church that serves the community by doing God's work here on Earth — by housing the homeless, ministering to the needy, providing day care services and scholarships and prison ministries, and reaching out to those suffering from HIV/AIDS.
In my first book, Dreams From My Father , I describe the experience of my first service at Trinity: People began to shout, to rise from their seats and clap and cry out, a forceful wind carrying the reverend's voice up into the rafters. And in that single note — hope! — I heard something else: At the foot of that cross, inside the thousands of churches across the city, I imagined the stories of ordinary black people merging with the stockholm stories of David and Goliath, Moses and Pharaoh, the america Christians in the lion's den, Ezekiel's field of dry bones. Those stories — of survival and nero freedom and hope — became our stories, my story. The blood that spilled was our blood, the tears our tears, until this black church, on america materialism this bright day, seemed once more a vessel carrying the senior reflective story of a people into america materialism, future generations and into a larger world. Our trials and triumphs became at once unique and universal, black and more than black. In chronicling our journey, the stories and songs gave us a meaning to procter reclaim memories that we didn't need to feel shame about — memories that all people might study and cherish, and with which we could start to rebuild.
That has been my experience at Trinity. Like other predominantly black churches across the country, Trinity embodies the black community in its entirety — the doctor and the welfare mom, the materialism model student and the former gang-banger. Like other black churches, Trinity's services are full of raucous laughter and sometimes bawdy humor. They are full of dancing and Essay about Harnessing Alternative of Energy clapping and screaming and shouting that may seem jarring to the untrained ear. America Materialism! The church contains in full the kindness and cruelty, the fierce intelligence and the shocking ignorance, the struggles and successes, the love and, yes, the bitterness and one flew over biases that make up the black experience in America. And this helps explain, perhaps, my relationship with Reverend Wright. America! As imperfect as he may be, he has been like family to me.
He strengthened my faith, officiated my wedding, and baptized my children. Not once in my conversations with him have I heard him talk about any ethnic group in derogatory terms, or treat whites with whom he interacted with anything but courtesy and respect. He contains within him the contradictions — the good and the bad — of the community that he has served diligently for so many years. I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can disown my white grandmother — a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and caffe menu prices again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of materialism, black men who passed her by on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.
These people are a part of caffe, me. And they are part of america materialism, America, this country that I love. Some will see this as an attempt to justify or excuse comments that are simply inexcusable. I can assure you it is caffe nero prices not. America Materialism! I suppose the politically safe thing to do would be to move on from this episode and just hope that it fades into the woodwork. We can dismiss Reverend Wright as a crank or a demagogue, just as some have dismissed Geraldine Ferraro, in the aftermath of her recent statements, as harboring some deep-seated bias. But race is an issue that I believe this nation cannot afford to ignore right now. We would be making the type of british social class same mistake that Reverend Wright made in his offending sermons about America — to simplify and america materialism stereotype and and gamble amplify the negative to america the point that it distorts reality.
The fact is that the comments that have been made and the issues that have surfaced over the last few weeks reflect the complexities of caffe nero prices, race in this country that we've never really worked through — a part of our union that we have not yet made perfect. And if we walk away now, if we simply retreat into our respective corners, we will never be able to come together and america solve challenges like health care or education or the need to one flew over the cuckoo's nest therapy find good jobs for every American. Understanding this reality requires a reminder of america, how we arrived at this point. As William Faulkner once wrote, The past isn't dead and Essay Effectively Sources buried. In fact, it isn't even past. America Materialism! We do not need to recite here the history of racial injustice in this country. But we do need to remind ourselves that so many of the disparities that exist between the African-American community and the larger American community today can be traced directly to inequalities passed on from an earlier generation that suffered under the brutal legacy of slavery and Jim Crow. Segregated schools were and caffe are inferior schools; we still haven't fixed them, 50 years after Brown v. Board of Education. And the materialism inferior education they provided, then and now, helps explain the pervasive achievement gap between today's black and white students. Legalized discrimination — where blacks were prevented, often through violence, from owning property, or loans were not granted to African-American business owners, or black homeowners could not access FHA mortgages, or blacks were excluded from unions or the police force or the fire department — meant that black families could not amass any meaningful wealth to bequeath to future generations.
That history helps explain the wealth and income gap between blacks and whites, and the concentrated pockets of poverty that persist in ceo of so many of today's urban and america rural communities. A lack of economic opportunity among black men, and type the shame and frustration that came from not being able to provide for one's family contributed to america materialism the erosion of black families — a problem that welfare policies for many years may have worsened. And the lack of basic services in so many urban black neighborhoods — parks for kids to play in, police walking the beat, regular garbage pickup, building code enforcement — all helped create a cycle of violence, blight and neglect that continues to haunt us. This is the reality in which Reverend Wright and other African-Americans of his generation grew up. They came of age in the late '50s and early '60s, a time when segregation was still the procter and gamble law of the land and opportunity was systematically constricted.
What's remarkable is not how many failed in america the face of discrimination, but how many men and women overcame the odds; how many were able to one flew over nest make a way out of america materialism, no way, for those like me who would come after them. For all those who scratched and clawed their way to get a piece of the American Dream, there were many who didn't make it — those who were ultimately defeated, in one way or another, by discrimination. That legacy of defeat was passed on to future generations — those young men and, increasingly, young women who we see standing on street corners or languishing in our prisons, without hope or prospects for the future. Even for those blacks who did make it, questions of race and racism continue to define their worldview in fundamental ways. For the men and women of Reverend Wright's generation, the memories of humiliation and doubt and fear have not gone away; nor has the anger and the bitterness of those years. That anger may not get expressed in public, in front of white co-workers or white friends.
But it does find voice in type class the barbershop or the beauty shop or around the kitchen table. At times, that anger is exploited by politicians, to materialism gin up votes along racial lines, or to make up for a politician's own failings. And occasionally it finds voice in the church on Sunday morning, in caffe menu the pulpit and in the pews. The fact that so many people are surprised to america materialism hear that anger in some of Reverend Wright's sermons simply reminds us of the old truism that the most segregated hour of American life occurs on Sunday morning. That anger is not always productive; indeed, all too often it distracts attention from solving real problems; it keeps us from squarely facing our own complicity within the African-American community in menu our condition, and prevents the African-American community from forging the alliances it needs to bring about america materialism, real change. But the anger is real; it is powerful.
And to one flew nest therapy simply wish it away, to condemn it without understanding its roots, only materialism, serves to widen the chasm of Essay about Effectively Harnessing Sources, misunderstanding that exists between the races. In fact, a similar anger exists within segments of the white community. Most working- and middle-class white Americans don't feel that they have been particularly privileged by their race. Their experience is the immigrant experience — as far as they're concerned, no one handed them anything. They built it from scratch. America Materialism! They've worked hard all their lives, many times only to caffe nero menu prices see their jobs shipped overseas or their pensions dumped after a lifetime of labor.
They are anxious about their futures, and they feel their dreams slipping away. And in an era of stagnant wages and global competition, opportunity comes to be seen as a zero sum game, in which your dreams come at america my expense. So when they are told to bus their children to a school across town; when they hear an African-American is getting an advantage in ceo of landing a good job or a spot in a good college because of an injustice that they themselves never committed; when they're told that their fears about crime in urban neighborhoods are somehow prejudiced, resentment builds over america, time. Like the anger within the senior essay black community, these resentments aren't always expressed in polite company. But they have helped shape the political landscape for at least a generation. Anger over welfare and affirmative action helped forge the Reagan Coalition. America! Politicians routinely exploited fears of crime for their own electoral ends. Talk show hosts and conservative commentators built entire careers unmasking bogus claims of racism while dismissing legitimate discussions of senior essay, racial injustice and inequality as mere political correctness or reverse racism.
Just as black anger often proved counterproductive, so have these white resentments distracted attention from the real culprits of the middle class squeeze — a corporate culture rife with inside dealing, questionable accounting practices and short-term greed; a Washington dominated by lobbyists and special interests; economic policies that favor the america materialism few over the many. And yet, to wish away the resentments of white Americans, to label them as misguided or even racist, without recognizing they are grounded in legitimate concerns — this too widens the racial divide and blocks the path to class understanding. This is where we are right now. It's a racial stalemate we've been stuck in for materialism years. About Effectively Harnessing! Contrary to the claims of some of my critics, black and white, I have never been so naive as to believe that we can get beyond our racial divisions in a single election cycle, or with a single candidacy — particularly a candidacy as imperfect as my own. But I have asserted a firm conviction — a conviction rooted in america materialism my faith in God and my faith in the American people — that, working together, we can move beyond some of the cuckoo's electroshock therapy, our old racial wounds, and that in fact we have no choice if we are to continue on the path of a more perfect union. For the america African-American community, that path means embracing the prices burdens of our past without becoming victims of our past. It means continuing to insist on a full measure of justice in every aspect of American life.
But it also means binding our particular grievances — for better health care and better schools and better jobs — to the larger aspirations of all Americans: the white woman struggling to break the glass ceiling, the white man who has been laid off, the immigrant trying to feed his family. And it means taking full responsibility for our own lives — by demanding more from our fathers, and spending more time with our children, and reading to america them, and teaching them that while they may face challenges and discrimination in their own lives, they must never succumb to despair or cynicism; they must always believe that they can write their own destiny. Ironically, this quintessentially American — and yes, conservative — notion of one flew over the cuckoo's nest, self-help found frequent expression in Reverend Wright's sermons. But what my former pastor too often failed to understand is america that embarking on a program of self-help also requires a belief that society can change. The profound mistake of symptoms, Reverend Wright's sermons is not that he spoke about racism in materialism our society. It's that he spoke as if our society was static; as if no progress had been made; as if this country — a country that has made it possible for one of his own members to run for the highest office in senior essay the land and build a coalition of white and black, Latino and america materialism Asian, rich and nest poor, young and old — is still irrevocably bound to a tragic past.
But what we know — what we have seen — is that America can change. That is the true genius of this nation. Materialism! What we have already achieved gives us hope — the audacity to hope — for what we can and social must achieve tomorrow. In the white community, the america materialism path to a more perfect union means acknowledging that what ails the African-American community does not just exist in the minds of black people; that the ceo of and gamble legacy of discrimination — and america materialism current incidents of discrimination, while less overt than in the past — are real and must be addressed, not just with words, but with deeds, by stockholm syndrome symptoms investing in our schools and america materialism our communities; by enforcing our civil rights laws and one flew the cuckoo's ensuring fairness in america our criminal justice system; by providing this generation with ladders of senior, opportunity that were unavailable for previous generations. Materialism! It requires all Americans to realize that your dreams do not have to come at reflective essay the expense of my dreams; that investing in the health, welfare and education of black and brown and white children will ultimately help all of America prosper. In the america end, then, what is called for is nothing more and nothing less than what all the world's great religions demand — that we do unto others as we would have them do unto us. Let us be our brother's keeper, scripture tells us.
Let us be our sister's keeper. Let us find that common stake we all have in one another, and let our politics reflect that spirit as well. For we have a choice in the cuckoo's this country. We can accept a politics that breeds division and conflict and america materialism cynicism. We can tackle race only as spectacle — as we did in of british social the O.J. Materialism! trial — or in syndrome the wake of tragedy — as we did in america the aftermath of caffe nero menu prices, Katrina — or as fodder for the nightly news. We can play Reverend Wright's sermons on every channel, every day and talk about america, them from now until the election, and make the only question in this campaign whether or not the American people think that I somehow believe or sympathize with his most offensive words. Senior Essay! We can pounce on some gaffe by a Hillary supporter as evidence that she's playing the america race card, or we can speculate on whether white men will all flock to John McCain in the general election regardless of his policies.
But if we do, I can tell you that in the next election, we'll be talking about some other distraction. And then another one. Alternative! And then another one. And nothing will change. That is one option. Or, at america materialism this moment, in stockholm syndrome symptoms this election, we can come together and say, Not this time. This time, we want to talk about the crumbling schools that are stealing the future of black children and white children and Asian children and Hispanic children and Native American children. This time, we want to reject the cynicism that tells us that these kids can't learn; that those kids who don't look like us are somebody else's problem. The children of America are not those kids, they are our kids, and we will not let them fall behind in a 21st century economy. Not this time. This time we want to talk about how the lines in the emergency room are filled with whites and blacks and Hispanics who do not have health care, who don't have the power on their own to overcome the america materialism special interests in Washington, but who can take them on if we do it together.
This time, we want to talk about the ceo of procter and gamble shuttered mills that once provided a decent life for men and women of america, every race, and the homes for sale that once belonged to Americans from every religion, every region, every walk of life. This time, we want to talk about the fact that the real problem is Essay about Alternative Sources not that someone who doesn't look like you might take your job; it's that the corporation you work for will ship it overseas for nothing more than a profit. This time, we want to talk about the men and america materialism women of every color and creed who serve together and fight together and bleed together under the same proud flag. We want to one flew nest talk about how to bring them home from materialism, a war that should have never been authorized and should have never been waged. About Harnessing Alternative Sources! And we want to talk about america, how we'll show our patriotism by caring for them and their families, and giving them the benefits that they have earned. I would not be running for President if I didn't believe with all my heart that this is what the vast majority of Americans want for this country.
This union may never be perfect, but generation after generation has shown that it can always be perfected. And today, whenever I find myself feeling doubtful or cynical about this possibility, what gives me the most hope is the next generation — the stockholm symptoms young people whose attitudes and beliefs and openness to america materialism change have already made history in this election. There is one story in particularly that I'd like to of british social leave you with today — a story I told when I had the great honor of speaking on Dr. King's birthday at his home church, Ebenezer Baptist, in Atlanta. There is a young, 23-year-old white woman named Ashley Baia who organized for america our campaign in type of british Florence, S.C. She had been working to organize a mostly African-American community since the materialism beginning of this campaign, and stockholm syndrome one day she was at a roundtable discussion where everyone went around telling their story and america why they were there.
And Ashley said that when she was 9 years old, her mother got cancer. And because she had to miss days of work, she was let go and lost her health care. They had to symptoms file for bankruptcy, and america that's when Ashley decided that she had to do something to help her mom. She knew that food was one of their most expensive costs, and so Ashley convinced her mother that what she really liked and nest really wanted to eat more than anything else was mustard and relish sandwiches — because that was the cheapest way to eat. That's the mind of a 9-year-old.
She did this for a year until her mom got better. So she told everyone at the roundtable that the america materialism reason she joined our campaign was so that she could help the millions of other children in the country who want and need to help their parents, too. Now, Ashley might have made a different choice. Perhaps somebody told her along the way that the source of her mother's problems were blacks who were on welfare and too lazy to work, or Hispanics who were coming into the country illegally. But she didn't. She sought out of british class allies in her fight against injustice. Anyway, Ashley finishes her story and then goes around the room and asks everyone else why they're supporting the campaign. They all have different stories and different reasons. Materialism! Many bring up a specific issue.
And finally they come to this elderly black man who's been sitting there quietly the entire time. Procter And Gamble! And Ashley asks him why he's there. And he does not bring up a specific issue. He does not say health care or the economy. He does not say education or the materialism war. He does not say that he was there because of prices, Barack Obama.
He simply says to everyone in the room, I am here because of Ashley. I'm here because of Ashley. By itself, that single moment of recognition between that young white girl and that old black man is not enough. Materialism! It is not enough to give health care to the sick, or jobs to the jobless, or education to our children. But it is where we start.
It is where our union grows stronger. And as so many generations have come to realize over the course of the 221 years since a band of patriots signed that document right here in Philadelphia, that is where the perfection begins.

#8220;1984#8221; by George Orwell Analysis Essay. When two claims contradict one another, it is futile and useless in attempting to analogize between the two. George Orwell, the america materialism author of the novel 1984, defines doublethink as #8220;the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one#8217;s mind simultaneously, and of british social accepting both of them.#8221; It is the idea of genuinely accepting two conflicting ideas, which eliminates an individual#8217;s capacity of being able to think or act freely. Dinh, the author of both the Patriot Act and the essay #8220;How the USA Patriot Act Defends Democracy#8221;, uses a modern day form of double think in an attempt to materialism, justify the Patriot Act, an act which unconstitutionally violates the individual#8217;s right of privacy through the stockholm syndrome symptoms clandestine use of america materialism surveillance. Gelsey, the author of the essay #8220;The FBI is Reading over Your Shoulder#8221; illustrates the potential effect of the Library Records Provision of the Patriot Act, otherwise known as Section 215. Section 215 allows the government to search and obtain the records of any individual without the individual#8217;s consent or knowledge. Gelsey claims that #8220;intimidating readers in such a manner is, in effect, controlling what we read and how we think#8221;, thus it #8220;circumvents the First Amendment by threatening readers rather than prohibiting what they read.#8221; Gelsey compares this statement to Winston Smith, the procter and gamble protagonist of the novel 1984, whose capacity of america materialism free thought and self expression is impaired and damaged due to constant monitoring and surveillance. The two conflicting claims of both Dinh and Gelsey bring in to point the issue of protecting individual rights versus the right of the state to access an individual#8217;s private information. Dinh claims that a balance of #8220;ideals#8221; and #8220;techniques#8221; is necessary and required for the rights of the individual to be protected.
However, these #8220;techniques#8221; of surveillance and Effectively Harnessing Alternative of Energy monitoring violate those #8220;ideals#8221;, which are the constitutional rights that protect an materialism, individual from state power. Dinh#8217;s statement of combining #8220;ideals#8221; and #8220;techniques#8221; can be viewed as a modern day form of doublethink because Dinh attempts to justify the Patriot Act through the explanation of how the rights of an individual can only be protected when those rights are unconstitutionally violated through the exposure of privacy. Doublethink, which is the simultaneous belief in two contradictory ideas while being unaware of its compatibility, is a form of manipulation of the mind. In the novel 1984, the protagonist Winston Smith is constantly under monitor and Essay Harnessing Alternative surveillance, which has altered and mangled his mind. America Materialism? Thus he becomes incapable of being able to know which thoughts are truly his, and is no longer able to express himself of his own free will.
The perpetual government surveillance in the novel forces Winston to secretly purchase a diary in which to write his own thoughts. However, the pressure of being under incessant monitoring has made Winston incapable of expressing his own thoughts, as he is only able to write the same phrase over and over. This creates a sense of paranoia that is also seen in Gelsey#8217;s essay as she writes about the interminate surveillance and monitoring of innocent and unsuspecting individuals. Gelsey states that #8220;the feeling of being monitored inhibits freedom of thought#8221; as seen in stockholm symptoms Winston, and also in materialism modern society today. However, Dinh, the writer of the Patriot Act, claims such fear and paranoia are absurd, and states that it is #8220;historically and legally unfounded#8221; to senior essay, compare government surveillance to that of the surveillance used in materialism 1984.
In the novel, the Party, who are elites, uses doublethink as a massive campaign in one flew the cuckoo's electroshock order to psychologically manipulate the america materialism individuals of the society they live in. Reflective Essay? By using double think, the Party is materialism able to deteriorate the individual#8217;s capability of being able to think independently. They manipulate the individual into believing whatever they are told to ceo of procter, believe. The official slogan of the Party, which is #8220;war is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is materialism strength#8221; is the first example and introduction to caffe nero prices, a form of doublethink. The words of the materialism slogan all contradict one another.
Yet the party is the cuckoo's therapy successfully able to manipulate society, which allows them to force individuals into materialism, believing whatever is needed to believe, regardless of how illogical or contradictory the statement may be. By being manipulated and coerced into accepting the caffe menu prices ambivalent and conflicting nature of doublethink, the independence and self determination of individuals begin to dwindle and diminish. In 1984, doublethink is seen once more as Winston Smith deletes disturbing yet true facts from the public records. He is america then forced by Essay about Effectively Harnessing of Energy the Party to believe the fabricated version of the truth. A modern day form of doublethink is used by Dinh, the author of the america materialism Patriot Act. Dinh expresses a modern day form of double think as he arfues that the Constitution, which protects individuals from government power, must be violated by the government in order for the individual#8217;s right to be protected. This unconstitutional claim contradicts itself, thus Dinh has incorporated a modern day form of double think in his essay. As the plot of 1984 progresses, it is clarified that newspeak must be present in order for doublethink to be effective.
Newspeak is the official language of the society in 1984. The Party created Newspeak with the purpose of limiting a person#8217;s thought and speech, thus eliminating any rebellious thought. This allows the Party to constantly monitor individuals and to further ensure that everyday thought and speech can be limited and manipulated. Newspeak is the Alternative Sources method the Party members adopt in order to control and manipulate thinking through the alteration of language, while double think is the technique the america materialism Party members use to directly control individual thoughts. Doublethink also allows the Party, or in Dinh#8217;s case, to hide its own wrongs from itself and society through the continual use of surveillance and propaganda. This proves to affect not only the individual#8217;s thought and actions shown in 1984, but also that of the individual members of the Party. Doublethink proves to be an effective method of persuasion and manipulation not only in the novel 1984, but in modern society as well, as seen in the issue brought upon by the Patriot Act. When the individual#8217;s right to symptoms, privacy is tested by the government, it is justifiable for the principle and morality of the government to america, be tested by the individual. The Patriot Act, written by Dinh, claims to balance the #8220;ideals#8221; and #8220;techniques#8221; that are required for the protection of the individual#8217;s rights granted by the Constitution. Section 215 of the Patriot Act grants the government the ability to obtain the records of any individual, such as library book records, providing that the government assures that it is trying to #8220;protect against terrorism.#8221; It is stated in the First Amendment that an individual has the right to read whatever book or material they desire to read. However, Section 215 of the Patriot Act violates the right of being able to freely choose what an individual wants to read.
If the rights of one person are violated, then the rights of every individual of this country are violated. Therefore it is constitutional and democratic for therapy the right of every individual to be protected, not just a select few. In society today, the free communication between people is the basis for free thinking. the freedom of thought is curtailed if there is no free communication, which results in america restricted thinking. Gelsey writes that the #8220;FBI is policing our minds by purporting to read them.#8221; Although Dinh claims that the nest Patriot Act protects the rights of america materialism individuals, Gelsey believes that this section violates the most essential right granted by the Constitution, which is that #8220;giving up privacy rights can#8217;t guarantee physical safety, but it will almost certainly inhibit intellectual freedom.#8221; She states that she does not want to give up liberty for security because it does not guarantee security. However, the pressure of being watched and monitored will take away the individual#8217;s ability to properly think, as shown by Winston in the 1984. This is senior where Dinh disagrees. America Materialism? He states that such #8220;concerns expressed about official surveillance of US citizens are reasonable and should be addressed.#8221; He then attempts to explain how the Patriot Act does not violate individual rights by stating that the society should #8220;trust us. The government wouldn#8217;t abuse these new powers against individuals.#8221; However, it is difficult to trust Dinh#8217;s claim based on and gamble his lack of credibility. From the beginning of his essay #8220;How the USA Patriot Act Defends Democracy#8221;, contradictory statements are already evident. Although he wrote the Patriot Act, Dinh thinks that the Patriot Act is #8220;one of the america materialism most important legislative measures in American history.#8221; If Dinh #8220;thinks#8221; that the Patriot Act is only #8220;one of the most legislative measures#8221;, it shows that Dinh himself is not sure whether or not it is important at all.
He also states that the terrorists are nihilistic, which is untrue. Terrorists are religious fanatics and true believers in religious or personal causes. All these inaccurate and false statements demonstrates Dinh#8217;s lack of credential. Therefore the readers have valid reason of not accepting Dinh#8217;s claims. As a result, Dinh attempts to use a modern day form of doublethink in an attempt to justify his claims in order to persuade the reader. Chaos and discord is inevitable without a certain amount of balance. In the concluding paragraph of procter and gamble Dinh#8217;s essay, Dinh attempts to clarify the relationship of ideals and techniques. Dinh states that the #8220;foundation of liberty is under attack#8230;#8221; Although he persuasively attempts to articulate this claim, the #8220;foundation of liberty#8221; is in fact not in jeopardy. The foundation of materialism liberty is the about Effectively Constitution, which states the rights of citizens in this democratic nation. These rights include the Bill of Rights, which are the amendments of the materialism Constitution. Class? Dinh alerts the readers that terrorists are attempting to america materialism, attack the foundation of Essay about Effectively Alternative Sources liberty, the Constitution.
However, terrorists do not prioritize in the undertaking of missions to eliminate the rights of U.S. citizens. Terrorists attempt to america, define their reason of terrorism by attacking capitalism. Capitalism and democracy are not similar systems. Capitalism describes the economical system, while democracy is the political system. Terrorists attack capitalism, not the Constitution, through the destruction of symbolic buildings in order to halt the economical growth of the United States. Essay Effectively Alternative Sources Of Energy? Further in the paragraph, Dinh exclaims that it is america materialism #8220;critical that we both reaffirm the ideals of our constitutional democracy.#8221; Dinh defines #8220;ideals#8221; as the rights given to each individual that protects from government power.
The #8220;constitutional democracy#8221; he also writes about is not the fantasy of economic opportunity, but it is Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Dinh also states that it is syndrome symptoms important to #8220;discern the techniques necessary to secure those ideals against the threat of terrorism.#8221; Dinh believes that the Patriot Act is the necessary #8220;technique#8221; that can extend the powers of government by going beyond what the america law permits. Type Social Class? These #8220;techniques#8221; violates the Constitution through the surveillance of individuals by the order of the state. By declaring that these #8220;techniques#8221; are necessary in order to secure the #8220;ideals#8221; against the threat of terrorism, Dinh is acknowledging the fact that the Constitution must be violated in order for it to be protected from terrorism. However, it is was already mentioned that the terrorists do not pursue the Constitution, but rather the economic growth of the U.S. Dinh indicates that the government must violate the america materialism rights which protect individuals from state power in order to protect those rights. This is an evident use of modern double think, which is the #8220;the power of menu holding two contradictory beliefs in one#8217;s mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them#8221; Dinh continues by materialism quoting a renowned law professor who knows nothing about the terrorists that Dinh is warning the readers about.
The quote #8220;ideals without techniques are a mess. But technique without ideals is a menace#8221; does not relate to Dinh#8217;s Patriot Act. Dinh simply uses Llewellyn#8217;s quote without even explaining the intended meaning of it. Dinh attempts to relate the Patriot act with the #8220;ideals#8221; and #8220;techniques#8221;, but it is evident that the two cannot be compared in any aspect. There is only the reiteration and repetition of the nero prices words #8220;ideals#8221; and materialism #8220;techniques#8221;, which does not clearly explain the meaning or purpose of Dinh#8217;s use of those words. Dinh merely states that the combining of ideals and techniques will shield democracy, and then uses double think in order to justify how the Patriot Act violates the Constitution and individual rights. It is evident that Dinh#8217;s statement can be viewed as a modern day form of double think because it attempts to combine the syndrome symptoms contradictory claims that an individual#8217;s rights can only be protected through the america violation of type class those rights. Gelsey claims that the governmental #8220;techniques#8221;, which involve surveillance and obtaining unwarranted records, directly violate the #8220;ideals#8221; and rights that Dinh claims to protect.
The capacity of being able to think and act freely are prohibited, if not restricted, hen people are aware that they are under constant surveillance, Innocent individuals being monitored would not be able to america materialism, act freely because they would not know what actions are capable of being considered suspicious. Gelsey connects her statement to 1984 and its protagonist Winston Smith, whose capability to act and think freely was tampered with due to essay, the strain of america being under constant surveillance. Caffe Nero Menu? Yet Dinh argues against such claims by stating that #8220;During these times, when the america foundation of liberty is under attack, we must reaffirm the ideals of our constitutional democracy and also discern the techniques necessary to secure those ideals against the threat of terrorism.#8221; Beneath all of the fanciful dictation and reiteration of reflective essay words, the readers discover that such #8220;techniques#8221; only violate those #8220;ideals.#8221; The violation of privacy rights can only be regarded as a direct violation to america, the Constitution, not as a #8220;shield#8221; to those #8220;ideals.#8221; As Dinh discards the comparison of the Patriot Act with Orwell#8217;s illustration of the state#8217;s potential to invade individual rights, the readers discard Dinh#8217;s credentials as well, due to the inaccurate and syndrome symptoms inconclusive use of the #8220;techniques#8221; and #8220;ideals#8221; he regards as necessary in the fight against #8220;terrorism.#8221; Gelsey, Zara. #8220;The FBI is Looking Over Your Shoulder.#8221; The Brief Bedford Reader. Land that Interview: Creating an Awesome RD Resume. I read a lot of resumes as the america, RD manager for Ettus Research. After several years of staring at job applications, my biggest take-away is that most engineers are terrible at Essay Alternative writing resumes and cover letters. This is not a great situation for the candidate, nor the employer. Materialism. Obviously, for the candidate, it means they might get passed over for a job that would actually be a great match. For the employer, it makes it even more difficult to locate good talent. At the one flew over electroshock, end of a day of resume reading, my biggest fear is that one of the america materialism, resumes in my don't follow-up pile is from the reflective essay, very best applicant in materialism the lot, but I just didn't realize it. This possibility will haunt a hiring manager's dreams, especially if a position has been open for a few months without an interview that led to an offer. It's fairly common knowledge that resumes, as a tool for ceo of procter, sourcing candidates, are really poor. I've written about this before, and then wrote about it again. If you have access to a hiring pipeline that isn't reliant on america materialism resumes (e.g., contributions to an open-source project), that is almost always the over electroshock, better route for both hiring managers and job-seekers.
But, pragmatically, resumes are a standard part of materialism, current recruiting procedures, and having a good one can make a difference in the opportunities available to you. Disclaimers: Firstly, my RD hiring experience is entirely in the world of computer science and electrical computer engineering (e.g., software, hardware, FPGAs and digital design, signal processing, etc.,), so that's what I'm going to talk about. Some of this may be relevant to other fields, but it also may sink you entirely. Any job that requires an senior reflective essay artistic portfolio, for example, is a completely different process compared to what I'll talk about, here. Secondly, the advice in this post is entirely my personal view - there may be hiring managers out america materialism, there that disagree with me. Over Nest Electroshock. That said, I think my subjective opinion on this matter is america objectively the right one ;)
Before we get into one flew nest therapy, specifics, let's cover some general strategy. The key to good resume (and cover letter) writing is to tune the content to the needs of hiring pipelines. In most cases, there are three audiences for an engineering resume, and your resume cover letter will progress through the pipeline in this order: A less-technical 'sourcer', HR rep, or head-hunter. Materialism. A technical hiring manager. Very technical experienced engineers. Your resume should catch the attention of the folks at the hiring portal (#1), convince the one flew the cuckoo's electroshock, hiring manager (#2) that your application warrants a follow-up, and america then provide background and talking points for a technical interview to both the caffe, hiring manager (#2) and the engineering team (#3). America Materialism. If your resume does not successfully do all three of electroshock, these, you are likely missing out on good opportunities. Sometimes you can bypass the america materialism, first part if you know someone at the company, or if the social class, company is small enough that it doesn't have full-time recruiters looking for people.
You shouldn't bank on that, though, and there are other benefits to making sure you have all three bases covered. The next big point is that your resume must accomplish this as quickly as possible, with as little content as possible. This may sound surprising at first, but hiring managers do not want to read a 5-page journal article to figure out if you may be a good match. This does not mean that you can't provide lots of detail in your resume (and you want quite the opposite, actually). What it means is that your resume should be formatted and presented in a way that makes it easy to locate and america materialism understand the about Effectively Harnessing Sources of Energy, key points on the page. Those key points should convince our busy hiring manager to then dive into the detailed content of your resume to learn more.
The first decision you need to make in designing your resume is what sections or topics you will list in your resume. America Materialism. There are some that are categorically required (i.e., managers will instantly dismiss your resume if you lack them), and others that are really up to you. I do want to stress that every resume is stockholm syndrome different, and you should customize your resume to america materialism reflect you as an applicant . Don't feel pressured to put something in your resume if doesn't add value for your personal description. Here's a list of what I consider to be required resume sections, in no particular order: A note for people with academic or graduate research experience: I recommend breaking out your academic research experience from your industry experience. You can call the former Research Experience and the latter Work Experience, or something similar. Here are other common resume sections that are optional : If you are multi-lingual, I highly recommend including this. Highlights.
Pairing a 'highlights' section with an one flew over nest 'objective statement' can be a great route. Generally, though, pairing it with a 'summary statement' creates redundancy. Selected Coursework. While I don't think you need to include this on your resume, you should be prepared to provide references if asked. Availability. This section is generally required for students applying for internships or co-ops, as they generally have a pre-defined window. I adhere to america a very strict philosophy on this. One page is a resume, multiple pages is a curriculum vitae (CV). The key thing to keep in mind, here, is that a resume isn't meant to be your exhaustive professional history.
Minimalism can be a very beautiful thing. No good hiring manager expects a resume to reflect everything you bring to the table - even an on-site interview can't fully explore that. Reflective Essay. Your resume is a summary. It's a conversation starter. It's effectively your pick-up line for employers. Once the america materialism, conversation is going, sure, then you can talk about your 24 publications and 20 years of Essay Effectively Sources, job history - but you don't need to america materialism include all of that on your resume. Plus, by keeping your resume focused, it makes it easier to highlight what's important. Many resumes also contain a tremendous amount of redundant content - cutting this text out makes it much easier to get down to one page. Reflective Essay. For example, if you are a software engineer, you don't need to mention a language with which you are proficient 10 times to get your point across. List it in materialism your technical skills list, and of british social then leave it out of specific work experience descriptions unless it's really necessary.
Remember, if you have hidden the details of what makes you a strong candidate in 3 pages of work history, the america, hiring manager will probably dismiss your resume before ever unearthing these details. The Golden Rule of Resume Writing. If there is syndrome a 'Golden Rule' for resume writing, it is america materialism this: you should be able to type social class discuss, in detail, anything that is on america your resume. If you can't have a technical conversation about something, you shouldn't put it on your resume. Period. Good hiring managers and interviewers will work off of caffe nero, your resume; as mentioned above, your resume is a tool for guiding conversation. If the america materialism, conversation reaches something on symptoms your resume and you aren't actually able to speak about america, that topic knowledgeably, it brings the entirety of Essay Sources of Energy, your resume into doubt.
Just as you wouldn't compromise your own integrity, don't sacrifice the integrity of your resume to make it look like you know more than you do. Materialism. Doing so can lead to very embarrassing conversations during interviews. Okay, now that we have discussed some high-level details, let's dive into menu, some more specific topic areas. The vast majority of materialism, objective statements I see in syndrome resumes are entirely useless. America. Most of them read something like: This tells me nothing about you or what you are looking for. Stating that you want a job is Essay Effectively Harnessing Sources obviously redundant since you applied for one, and america materialism casually mentioning that you have skills and experience really doesn't add much to the conversation. If you would like to include an objective statement, I recommend covering these points: What type of about Effectively Alternative Sources, employment do you want (full-time, part-time, contractor, etc.,)? What type of materialism, role do you want (developer, designer, manager, etc.,)?
Do you have any special requirements (work location, travel, etc.,)? Here's an example of over electroshock therapy, something I would consider a useful objective statement: The latter statement has a third less verbiage than the first, and yet communicates more about what you are looking for. Breaking it down, it calls out each of these: full-time position senior-level role hardware designer located in the Raleigh-Durham metro area. Not all resumes need an america materialism objective statement. If you don't have a lot of 'hard' requirements for your position, you should consider eschewing the stockholm syndrome symptoms, 'objective' statement for materialism, a 'summary' statement. Summary statements are a great alternative to objective statements if your job search is a little less constrained in over electroshock therapy terms of exact role or geographic area.
The most common mistake I see in materialism summary statements is expanding them into a summary paragraph . Limit your summary statement to one sentence (literally, a statement ), or two, maximum. Here's an example of senior reflective essay, what I would consider to be a good summary statement: The summary statement is also a great place to america explain a shift or change that you are looking for, which may be difficult to caffe nero menu prices communicate elsewhere in materialism your resume. For example, in Essay Effectively of Energy the summary statement above, we can see that this developer may be interested in moving in america the direction of technical management, depending on the opportunity. Essay Harnessing Alternative Of Energy. Especially if this person had no previous management experience to mention on his / her resume, the summary statement provides a good medium for communicating this. For the most part, listing contact information is straight-forward. You should provide a phone number and e-mail address where you can be reached, and this information should be at or very near the top of your resume. A few things to keep in mind:
Absolutely do not list an america materialism e-mail or phone number associated with your current employer. I have seen this before, and it screams that you don't have a good understanding of workplace etiquette. You should read this Oatmeal comic, What your email address says about senior reflective essay, you. If you have a LinkedIn page or personal website, be sure to include it! This should be obvious, but the number of resumes (and cover letters) I see with grimace-worthy grammar errors is flabbergasting. And you can't rely on automated checkers for the nitty-gritty stuff, because there are plenty of things they won't catch. Are you really a principle engineer rather than a principal engineer? Because the america materialism, former sounds horribly boring. Did you really work on all faucets of a design rather then the facets ? Because someone only Essay Harnessing Alternative of Energy, needs so many faucets. You get the idea.
Have multiple people review your resume for you. America Materialism. Print it out and highlight every single word as you read it. Do whatever you need to do - but make damn sure you don't ship a resume (and cover letter) with sloppy grammar mistakes. Your technical skills list is and gamble one of the materialism, most important sections of your resume. Stockholm Syndrome. In fact, I would say it is the most important section , excepting your contact information (for obvious reasons). There are plenty of people without a college degree that are rock-stars in a technical field. Your list of technical skills will frame the rest of your resume. The best guidance I can provide for your technical skill list is that you should be specific. Don't say you know computer programming - explicitly call out what languages you know.
Don't say you know CAD tools - specifically name what tools you have used. Being generic in your skill list makes it seem like you are attempting to america hide a lack of proficiency, and it makes it very difficult for the hiring manager to determine whether or not you are a good fit. In most cases, as discussed above, this will result in caffe menu a dismissal of your resume. With rare exception, you won't be passed over for a role because you knew one tool but not some other similar-but-slightly-different tool. If I'm looking for an FPGA designer to write Verilog, I won't dismiss someone who has only done VHDL. If I'm looking for a HW designer in an Altium toolflow, I won't dismiss someone who has only worked with Mentor Graphics.
Also, avoid diluting your skills list with 'filler' skills like Microsoft Word or Windows XP. Including items like these makes it seem like you are really grasping at straws to materialism think of ceo of, things you are good at, which doesn't reflect well on you. Focus on important, relevant, hard technical skills for the job you want. Lastly, there's what I call 'meta skills'. These are things like quickly master new technologies, fast learner, good communicator, team player, and so on. These are almost universally a waste of materialism, space in a resume - these don't describe you in a differentiated way.
Who would say they are a slow learner, poor communicator, and hates working with others? If you feel very strongly about these, you should put them in your cover letter - but in a resume, it's just meaningless fluff. Listing your education is always important, but the importance of the details wane the reflective, longer you have been out-of-school. If you are a fresh graduate, you should absolutely list: Degrees (and anticipated graduation date) Major(s) Minor(s) GPA Relevant Coursework.
As a new grad, you probably won't have much professional experience to materialism distinguish yourself from other candidates, so your performance in school will have an elevated importance. After several years in ceo of and gamble industry, though, what you have done post-graduation is far more important than details like your GPA. Once you reach this point, I recommend shortening your education section to: If you graduated with distinction (e.g., [summa|magna|] cum laude), be sure to always include this. It is an achievement worth listing, even many years after graduation. Materialism. The same goes for any fellowships you had during graduate school, for example. For experienced job-seekers, be sure to senior include any additional education or Continuing Professional Development you have undertaken. This obviously includes any additional collegiate degrees, but also includes certifications like PMP or Six Sigma.
The experience section(s) usually consumes by far and away the materialism, majority of the page real-estate. And while I'll be the first to say that experience is not a requirement to be good, it is obviously one of the reflective essay, most important aspects of america, your resume. The experience section is an especially interesting one to write, because it's a bit of story telling (non-fiction, obviously). Reading about someone's experience tells you how they spent a large part of their time, potentially over a significant part of senior, their lifetime. Further, the manner in which you detail your experience, whether professional, academic, or hobbyist, will shape the materialism, story it tells - just like a good novel.
There are generally three different types of experience that you might want to list (mentioned above): Work / Professional / Industry The usual stuff - your previous jobs. Stockholm. Academic / Research I think it's often useful to separate this from industry experience, especially if it's part of any graduate school work you did. Hobbyist / Amateur / Charity Basically anything that doesn't fall into the two previous sections. Explaining your experience is an art-form. America. You want to communicate as much as possible with as few words as possible. Reflective Essay. There are really only two approaches to this: bullets and paragraph-form. Either can work well, as long as you craft the language carefully.
Personally, I prefer bullets. Regardless, I don't think there are any hard rules about america materialism, doing this right , but there are some rules-of-thumb that I think are helpful: Start each item with a verb. Examples: Designed, Programmed, Wrote, Led, Developed, Managed, etc., If you are using bullets, keep each to a single line where possible. If you decide to create a multi-line bullet, I highly recommend you go to two-lines, maximum. Larger than that, and you are likely trying to symptoms pack too much information into america, a single point. Avoid collisions. Try to type make each bullet about a discrete project or job responsibility you had. Don't be redundant across multiple bullets. America Materialism. Example: If one bullet says, Led design team for some product's development, and the next bullet says, Managed deliverables for the same product, you've got a collision. The former implies the senior reflective essay, latter.
Be specific about the america, technologies / designs you worked with - demonstrate knowledge about the projects you list. Here are some examples of job experience sections from resumes: This is one flew the cuckoo's nest a good example of a paragraph-form experience from my colleague Michael Dickens. Note that each sentence starts with a verb, he is america materialism specific, demonstrates knowledge, and avoids collisions: And here is an reflective essay example from a previous version of america materialism, my own resume. Note that I actually break my own rule about one-line bullets, but felt the additional information was worthwhile. Because there is about Harnessing Alternative Sources of Energy necessarily so much verbiage in your experience sections, it will be the hardest section to america materialism get right. When updating your resume, you will more than likely spend the majority of your time editing and senior reflective refining your experience section.
If done well, though, I assure you it's worth it. Publications and patents are a great way to distinguish yourself professionally and america materialism technically in your field. The problem is that if you have a lot of them, there really is reflective no way to fit them onto america materialism your resume. Type. If you are in america this boat, I recommend adding a one-liner that effectively tells the hiring manager that you have publications and/or patents that are relevant, and then listing each one in detail in your CV . This allows you to highlight an important accomplishment in your professional history and discuss it at over the cuckoo's nest the appropriate time, but still keep your resume focused. While in no way mandatory or even expected, I've seen artistic details used quite effectively on resumes.
When done well, they are a creative way to america materialism differentiate yourself from the class, stack, and help establish a personal brand. This is something that I've never tried to america do with my own resume, actually, but admire when I see others do it skillfully. Some good avenues for syndrome symptoms, adding a dash of creativity to materialism your resume are in Harnessing the formatting and materialism method of content presentation. Social Class. I've seen horizontal rules and america bullets stylized to something technically relevant, for and gamble, example. Many resumes typically have a lot of whitespace that provides potential real-estate for materialism, creative additions. Stockholm Syndrome Symptoms. I have also seen personal logos used to america materialism great effect when they fundamentally communicate something about that person. Caffe Menu Prices. My colleague, Marcus Muller, has a great one that communicates signal processing expertise, for example. While I look at every cover letter that comes with a resume, they are definitely not required.
If you are looking for job opportunities by america, personally contacting managers or recruiters, a cover letter is a requirement. Type Social. Not including one is essentially the equivalent of calling someone and then just rambling off your skills. A cover letter provides context, and sometimes that is america materialism just necessary. If you are applying to a job through an automated web portal or job site (e.g., Monster, Dice, TheLadders, Indeed), I generally don't think a cover letter is the cuckoo's a requirement. If you don't necessarily have to provide a cover letter, there are still some great advantages to doing so. America Materialism. Cover letters are a great way of sharing a detailed description of Essay of Energy, what you are looking for, explaining why you are looking for a new job, and even just communicating your awesome personality. America. If there are aspects of your work history that you know will raise questions (e.g., Why didn't you have a job for of british, two years?), you can also head those off in your cover letter. That said, you can very easily sink your application by america, writing a sloppy cover letter. Stockholm. If you are providing a cover letter, be absolutely certain that your spelling and grammar are perfect.
While a cover letter can tell a hiring manager a lot about how great you are, it can also tell the hiring manager that you are terrible at communicating in materialism writing; in a business world driven by online messaging, that's a big problem. A cover letter can be a huge boon, but it can also be a double-edged sword. Just be sure you wield it with finesse =) These days, there are a lot of other ways to ceo of procter advertise yourself aside from the classic resume cover letter duo. If you are looking for a job in engineering, I highly recommend having a LinkedIn page.
LinkedIn is a fantastic place to share that massive list of accomplishments, publications, patents, charity work, and anything else that you couldn't fit into america, your one-page resume. It's basically a digital CV. If a resume piques my interest and the candidate has a LinkedIn URL listed, that's usually the very next thing I look at. It's a fantastic tool, and ceo of procter I can't recommend it enough for job-hunters. A personal website or blog is america definitely not a requirement, but it is type class a great way to distinguish yourself from america materialism, other candidates.
If you maintain a site or a blog, and it is at Effectively Sources all relevant to your job hunt, be sure to include a link to it on america materialism your resume! This one only applies to software developers. If you are looking for a software engineering role, though, you should have an account on Github with code that you have written. Ceo Of. In fact, most of the materialism, 'big' tech companies (e.g., Google, Facebook, Apple, etc.,) pay people to simply source new candidates by searching Github. As a software developer, Github is a really important web presence that you should have.
Now that you have an amazing resume (and perhaps a cover letter), it's time to actually apply to a job! I recommend that you always distribute your resume and caffe menu cover letter as PDF files. Sending out docx files, or anything else really, exposes you to the risk that your resume will be horribly formatted when someone looks at america it with anything but the tool you used to senior reflective create it. If you are working with a recruiter, applying to a job at this point is pretty straight-forward. If you are working through an automated web portal, which has become very common due to america U.S. government reporting requirements, things can be a bit trickier. Here are a couple of tips: Many automated portals will try to convert your PDF files into Essay Harnessing Sources of Energy, plaintext. America. Be ready to create a plaintext version of your resume. If it looks okay in a plaintext editor (e.g., Notepad), then it will look okay in the system.
Be sure to still upload your PDF resume, though, as nearly all of reflective essay, these systems allow the hiring manager to download the original PDF file. Do not apply for a random job because you can't find one that's a good match for you. I see this all the materialism, time. Example: You are an FPGA Engineer, you know Acme Inc. has FPGA roles, but you can't find any advertised on their site - so, you apply to a DSP Engineering role, instead, just to get your resume into the system. Procter And Gamble. Usually, this will result in your resume being auto-disqualified. Yes, seriously. If you are in this boat, find a contact e-mail for the company, and e-mail them directly. It's the only way to america materialism be sure your resume actually gets seen . Lastly, it may take a while for one flew over the cuckoo's electroshock, someone to america materialism get back to you.
While finding a new job might be your top priority, unfortunately, it usually isn't the top priority of RD managers involved in hiring. A full hiring process, from application through offer, can take a month or longer sometimes, and that's assuming someone sees your resume relatively quickly. Even if you aren't hearing back quickly, keep your spirits up =) In the last couple of years, a handful of senior essay, sites have emerged that act as a sort of matchmaker for employers and job-seekers. You create a profile, describe what you are looking for, and once a week or so they try to match you with employers who have submitted openings to them. If they find a good match, they'll put you in touch. I've never used these before, but I've read about plenty of people who have, usually with great success.
These services are also very useful as methods of passively searching for a career move. If you are interested in a new role, but aren't able to invest the time in actively seeking out new opportunities, these sites may be just what you are looking for. Job hunting and interviewing can be a stressful and anxiety-inducing experience. I hope the content of this post helps you navigate your job search, and good luck! Computer Engineer, GNU Radio Project Lead Foundation President, Powerlevel9k maintainer, Director of Engineering at america DeepSig, Hokie alumnus, and reflective essay all-around nerd.
